Dermatology
What it is: The American Academy of Dermatology has numerous online curricula. The "Basic Dermatology" curriculum contains a series of short power points on various derm topics – from newborn rashes to drug reactions. The "Skin of Color" curriculum provides vital teaching on how conditions appear on a variety of skin colors. Peruse others as you would like!
Ideal Audience: PL-1, 2, and 3 (Especially those with Primary Care/Hospitalist Interests!)
Why It’s Great: Information is case based, up to date and very clearly explained. Photos are high quality. Some major yield topics are covered including atopic dermatitis, newborn rashes and birthmarks, viral exanthems, etc. There are quizzes to test your knowledge at the end of each topic.
How to Access it:
- The full learning center: AAD Learning Portal
- The Basic Dermatology curriculum: Basic Dermatology Curriculum (All Modules) (aad.org)
- The Skin of Color curriculum: Skin of Color Curriculum (aad.org)
You will need to create a non-member account to access the teaching. It may look like you need to pay to access content - don't! The Basic Dermatology as well as the Skin of Color curricula are free. Once you have created a login, re-click the link included here. You can then scroll to see pre-planned curriculum.
How much time to budget for this: Aim to spend 30-45 minutes per topic, or you can plan to do a pre-planned curriculum during a dermatology elective.
Other Thoughts/Comment/Advice: There is a suggested order in which modules can be done to create a 2 or 4 week pediatric rotation. Plan to do this while on a dermatology elective!
