OPENPediatrics
What it is: OPENPediatrics is an online community of clinicians sharing best practices from all resource settings around the world through innovative collaboration and digital learning technologies. Essentially, this is a web site run by Boston Children’s Hospital staff that is open to the public. There are several already made “curriculums” comprised of pre-curriculum questions, video lectures that make up the whole of the curriculum, and then post-curriculum questions. There are also various videos and resources (Vent simulator, medication dosing charts) that one can pick through and read about. Additionally, there are a number of forums where questions/discussions can be posted.
Ideal Audience: Senior residents, fellows, attendings
Why it is great: Many informative videos, ventilator simulator, and our UMass specific PICU curriculum
How to access it: Registration is free online at http://openpediatrics.org/. Please create an account using your "@umassmemorial.org" email address and enter the enrollment code: UMassPICU (Refer to the PICU prep page for more information.)
How much time to budget for this: All depends on what you use. The videos tend to run in 20-40 minutes per topic, the question sets, then videos and the repeat questions would probably take hours to go through.
Other thoughts/comments/advice: In particular, we recommend checking out the ventilator simulator as well as the “Boston Children’s ICU” curriculum which you can find by first clicking on the home page, then click on “my learning” (graduation cap). Could be good to use as an easy stop-and-go resource – you could easily pause the video or quiz and answer a page or got see a patient if needed. Of note, it is hard to search for topics, and some videos are hit-or-miss.
