Mentorship, Meetings & ILPs
Many people are here to help as you navigate residency! Here is information to help you do so with success and ease.
Mentors
- Residency Leadership, Monick, and the chiefs are always happy to make time to talk. Always!
- You'll be assigned a Mentor Family during intern year. Find a description of roles and expectations here. See the 2025-2026 families in the chart below.
- Keep an eye out for our Mentor Family events sent via e-mail!
- We expect residents will naturally find other personal mentors along the way - perhaps from Continuity Clinic, or via a research project, or as you choose a career path. Reach out to Residency Leadership if you are having trouble identifying a good fit.

Meetings
- Twice per year (generally January and July), you will meet with Program Leadership for a Semiannual Review meeting. Prior to this meeting, you will need to complete your ILP (see below). At this meeting you will:
- Review your ILP (please make sure it is updated ahead of time!)
- Receive feedback gathered from the Clinical Competency Committee (a committee of clinical faculty that meets twice yearly to review each resident's progress and development)
- Give feedback about the residency - what's good, what needs improvement
- As specified in the Mentor Family guide, we expect that you will meet with your Mentor Family (in part or whole) at least twice per year
- House Staff Lunch and Friday Support Group provide ongoing avenues to talk
Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs)
- You will receive a link to an ILP specifically for you. You'll notice there are tabs along the bottom of the file for all the ILPs you'll make during residency. You will need to fill it out/update it twice per year prior to your Semiannual Review meetings.
