Jeffrey Shih, MDJeffrey Shih Discusses Heart Health with Spectrum News 1

Jeffrey Shih, MD, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was recently featured in a news segment on Spectrum News 1 discussing the rise in heart attacks following the passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney. According to Dr. Shih, over the last 10 to 20 years, people have started having heart attacks at earlier ages. “Heart issues can, in fact, be genetic, but there are preventative measures which can be taken,” said Dr. Shih. To minimize the risk of heart problems, Dr. Shih encourages people to live a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise. He also encourages people to avoid substance use, such as cigarettes or marijuana.
